4- Ladainha for solo guitar and live electronics (2007)
Silvio Ferraz - Direto - BR-C0O-08-00004
There are two tempos coexisting in parallel. The tempo of the long melodies, which is a slow tempo, piano or pianissimo, the rhythm of a lament. Yet there is the tempo of the thunder, doors being closed and chairs being pulled: chords, Bartók pizz., sudden fortes, in faster and tenser movements, full of affliction and anguish, now braking the free course of the old ladies' mournings while intoning their prayers and litanies (in an email to Daniel Murray).
To get those effects, Ladainha (Litany) uses scordatura
(the technique of tuning stringed instruments to unusual pitches), such as “low sol third string” and “high re fourth string”. This and all the rhythmic, melodic and formal elements are highlighted, reproduced and amplified by the electronics. Thus, the piece can be played either solo or accompanied by the electronics, like the version recorded on this CD.
