Violens Ironiae for acoustic guitar and magnetic tape (1995/1996)
Antônio Ribeiro -Direto - BR-C0O-08-00006
The piece explores the expression and immersion of the performer into the electronic
sounds through an oriented improvisation. The tape consists of guitar sounds, which were
transformed by the author. The instrumental part includes several improvisation modules
and the use of a series of objects such as a nail and a protractor. In the present recording,
pieces of iron, a metal slide, a ruler, among other materials were also used in order to
produce a different range of noisy sounds from the guitar. Violens Ironiae (Violent Irony) is
dedicated to the brazilian guitarist Gílson Antunes, who recorded the original tape used in
this recording, and first performed the piece in 1997 at the 2nd International Biennial for
Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo.
